WHY WE SUPPORT MEASURE S

Santee has not added a fire station since 1964 (60 years).

Only 56% of our city can be reached within the 4-minute emergency response standard.

A Yes vote on Measure S will address issues identified in the 2023 Santee Community Risk Assessment:

  1. Our fire stations are overcrowded and outdated
  2. We lack sufficient personnel to meet industry safety standards
  3. Our equipment maintenance facility doesn't meet modern requirements

Measure S will fund:

  1. New strategically located fire stations
  2. Six additional full-time firefighter/paramedics
  3. Critical equipment upgrades

This will bring 90% of Santee within a 4-minute response time (the national standard).
This is why local fiscal conservatives and Republicans have joined with local Democrats and independents to support measure S:

  1. A Safer Santee: Faster response times save lives and property.
  2. Fiscal Responsibility: This is the only tax that can actually save Santee residents money by reducing potential insurance premiums and protecting home values.
  3. Controlled Spending: The 15-year sunset ensures funds are used as intended.
  4. Visitors Pay Fair Share: The sales tax spreads the burden among residents and visitors (unlike property or income taxes).
  5. Strict Limits on use of Funds: Revenues can only be used for construction and operation of new infrastructure and equipment. No pay or pension increases.

Santee has fewer employees than similar cities. While efficient, our fire department lacks the resources to meet growing demand.

Measure S is about keeping Santee citizens in control of our fire safety decisions, rejecting outsider influences, and ensuring our community remains safe and self-reliant.
